A NOTE ABOUT TRIP TYPES

The Key To Our Success

Regarding fishing in the Florida Keys, versatility is the key to success. Captain Ben has the flexibility to change fishing styles because conditions are constantly changing. Converting unexpected opportunities into catches is a skill set Captain Ben has developed from fishing most of his life.

Captain Ben is an expert at recognizing what locations to fish and which species to target.

For instance, let’s say you book a reef trip but catch a bunch of fish quickly and want to hunt bigger fish on the wreck; with Captain Ben, you have options even when you are already out there because he is ready to fish anything.

FISHING ON ANCHOR

REEF FISHING TRIPS

Great for Kids!

NOVICE TO INTERMEDIATE

Depending on the time of year, Reef fishing can mean a variety of species in the Florida Keys. With this style of fishing, Captain Ben will take you a few miles out to a depth of 30-100 Ft, anchor up on the reef, and anchor to chum for fish.

The fish here are great for smaller kids, as the rods are nice and light. This style gets you on the fish quickly, and 4 hours is usually plenty of time to put together a nice catch.

Consider booking a 3/4 day and combining a morning of Reef Fishing with an afternoon of Wreck fishing.

REEF FISHING SPECIES

You can catch delicious Yellowtail, Mangrove, and Mutton Snapper on the reef. We also catch various Groupers such as Black, Red, and Gag. For the Mackerel family, we have Kingfish, Cero, and Spanish. Many days it looks like an aquarium behind the boat!

DRIFTING ON SUNKEN WRECKS

WRECK FISHING TRIPS

Great for Big Fish!

INTERMEDIATE

Wreck fishing is all about big fish. Marathon, Florida, has a wide variety of sunken wrecks, bridge rubble piles, and even airplanes that provide an underwater haven for fish. Captain Ben knows all of these spots and when it is best to fish on them.

The smaller fish on these artificial reefs attract massive predators, some weighing hundreds of pounds. Consider this trip if you ever wanted to bend the rod on a Greater Amberjack weighing over 100lbs or catch a Mutton Snapper over 20 lbs or a giant Grouper.

Usually, the adults wind on the largest of these fish, but the kids love to help! It is not unusual for a group of anglers to take turns on one big fish as they try and get it to the boat before a huge shark chomps it in half!

WRECK FISHING SPECIES

You can catch LARGE Amberjack, African Pompano, Mutton Snapper, Grouper, Permit, Vermilion Snapper, and much more.
Bring your muscles and a few friends to help you wind!

OFFSHORE FISHING TRIPS

Great for Offshore Trophies!

INTERMEDIATE TO EXPERIENCED

Offshore fishing is one of the most exciting trip types we offer. This style of fishing can yield excellent results in the summer for Dolphinfish (Mahi), Sailfish in the winter and spring, and Blackfin Tuna Year-round.

Offshore trips can include various styles of fishing including kite-fishing, trolling, sight casting, live-baiting, and deep-dropping.

Offshore fishing is not always as consistent as reef fishing because you must find the fish. But once Captain Ben gets you on them, you are in for an adrenaline rush!

OFFSHORE FISHING SPECIES

Offshore fishing includes pelagic predators like Sailfish, Mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo.
Captain Ben can also help you catch Queen Snapper, Tilefish, Grouper, and Swordfish from the deepest water using electric reels.
